GREAT TRAITS

At the core of Great Traits is a touching and engaging personal story; one that compelled Tobias Harwood to embark on this, his debut book. In 2009 a rocket-propelled grenade attack in Afghanistan left Harwood’s childhood friend, Captain Guy Disney, as an amputee. Just 18 months later Disney had overcome this devastating injury to become the first leg amputee to reach the North Pole, with his journey televised on ITV’s Harry’s Heroes.

Harwood was compelled to find out how Disney achieved such an extraordinary feat and became a record breaking polar adventurer. Disney’s passionate determination left Harwood wondering whether other outstanding individuals were driven by similar behaviours. Inspired by his friend, Harwood has devoted the last three years to interviewing an array of Olympic gold medalists, maverick business leaders, military commanders, elite musicians and courageous explorers to reveal the secret behind their success, and discovered the five key character traits each of these great Britons have in common: passion, grit, competitiveness, boldness and a constructive consciousness.

I was fortunate enough to be involved in this project and Great Traits features my photographs of some of the extraordinary individuals interviewed by Harwood for the book.

All the proceeds from the book go to the military charity Walking With the Wounded who not only supported Disney after his injury but continue to support servicemen and women left physically and mentally wounded by conflict.

You can buy your copy of the book from Waterstones or Amazon.
